PS4: Beta 8.50 update removes Communities, what does it mean?

PS4: Beta 8.50 update removes Communities, what does it mean?

The feature, available from version 3.00 of 2015, will exclude this feature from PlayStation 4 and will activate group notifications in the near future.

Sony Interactive Entertainment is sending out invitations for the beta version 8.50 of the PlayStation 4 firmware, an update that will bring new features to the system and will dispense with some already known features. According to MP1St, this test software dispenses with Communities, which until now allowed to create groups with players who had similar tastes to ours.

The function, published in September 2015 on the occasion of update 3.00 and celebrated by users, gave the option of joining groups and online games with those players with whom we shared likes. Sony defines Communities in its official manual as “sites where you can find players with similar interests and preferences. Within a community, you can play or form groups with other members of the community, or talk about interests that you have in common ”.

Another novelty of version 8.50 of PS4 (called Spring 2021) is that it will allow sending requests to join a game session, unless it is hidden; These requests may be accepted or rejected by the host in question and will have the option to activate or deactivate their notifications. This firmware version is in the testing phase, for selected users only; it is expected that its public premiere will take place in the next few weeks.

The end of Communities, a space settled on PlayStation 4

The Japanese firm, in fact, launched in November 2016 the PlayStation Communities app for iOS and Android, specifically designed to support and enhance this feature, which during the previous years led to the creation of “thousands of groups to which Millions of players have joined to share their experiences, play online games or post their best moments ”.

It should be said that last October 2020, due to the arrival of update 8.00 on PS4, the possibility of creating private Communities was eliminated; not so the public ones. Once the final version of the firmware update 8.50 of the Sony home console is released, it will not be possible to participate in Communities of any kind; Unless this decision is reversed.

We remind you that, if you have a PS4, you can download Ratchet & Clank totally free without any conditions (you don’t need to be a PS Plus subscription) until next April 1 at 05:00 AM (CEST).
