PS5: a patent shows its cooling system with 6 fans

Aware of the PS4 noise, Sony has patented a new cooling and ventilation system for the PS5 that is already visible in the console’s dev kits.

Although we have been left without the presentation of PlayStation 5 due to the support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the production of the console is already underway and more and more details about the platform are gradually coming to light. The last one, which we will echo below, has to do with the concern that the ventilation and cooling system of the console arouses in Sony, one of the weak points of PS4 and the main reason for the noise problems caused by this. A new official Sony patent shows us that the console development kits have up to six fans, divided equally between the two “wings” of the prototype.

As seen in the designs, three of the fans are intended to cool the power supply and another three are responsible for the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit). And last but not least, the development kits feature a steam chamber that also uses liquid cooling to keep the APU cool. Although we are talking about the devs kits that the developers work with and these do not have to be representative of the final appearance of the product, they certainly make it very clear that Sony is aware of complaints about PS4 and wants the PlayStation 5 to be silent and efficient. .

When will PS5 be released?

To get out of doubt about the final appearance of the platform and the final design of its cooling system, we still have to wait a few days. Sony has wanted to join the fight against racism and has decided to postpone the event, although according to what the company has announced, the new date will be announced “very soon”. We will see if it finally occurs before the release of The Last of Us Part 2, which will arrive on July 19 and is the main focus of attention in the coming weeks. In any case, and as a recommendation to kill time until then, we recommend you take a look at the new PlayStation Store offers for the Days of Play campaign. In them it is easy to find something that makes us more pleasant the wait until the official presentation of PS5.
