PS5 DualSense Controller Will Receive Official Linux Support

PS5 DualSense Controller Will Receive Official Linux Support

Sony will publish the drivers soon, which will allow users of this operating system to take advantage of the features of the PlayStation 5 pad.

Controllers have become a control system that is increasingly used on PCs. Steam already mentioned it when they enabled the possibility of using and taking advantage of the DualSense controller features on their platform. And what about Linux gamers? As Phoronix anticipates, Sony Interactive Entertainment will launch an official driver that will open the doors to enjoying video games with the pad of the company’s new generation console, the PS5.

Thus, this open source operating system, which had already incorporated official Sony support some time ago (hid-Sony driver), now receives the hid-playstation, which allows the user to connect the controller both by USB cable and by Bluetooth, wirelessly. As in the case of Steam, it is possible to operate all the main features of the DualSense, that is, the LED lights, the motion sensors, the touchpad, the battery or the vibration.

The driver cannot be officially downloaded yet, as it is under review. It is a matter of time before Sony enables it, but right now they have not reported any date.

The console, currently sold out

PlayStation 5 was released on November 19, but from the beginning there have been stock problems. Beyond reservations, the console has not been present in any physical store. The Japanese company justified this action due to the coronavirus crisis, which has not only affected the production process, but has also been done to avoid crowds in stores.

The PS5 controller stands out for two main technologies: on the one hand, the adaptive triggers, which allow you to play with the pressure of the same to adapt to the situations that occur in video games; on the other, haptic vibration, a technology linked to tactile sensations, as it tries to reproduce different textures through the vibration of the DualSense.
