PS5: Sony does not rule out a black version of the console

Matt MacLaurin also leaves the doors open to special editions of PlayStation 5, as has already happened in the past with PS4 models.

Sony does not close the doors to a possible black version of PlayStation 5. After the launch event of the console, available worldwide in late 2020 in two models (one standard and one digital only; no disc player) , both white, the possibility of offering a totally black PS5 has not been ruled out.

Matt MacLaurin, vice president of UX Design at PlayStation, has stated on LinkedIn certain aspects that we did not know about the user interface (the traditional dashboard). Apart from that, when asked about a possible black version of the PS5, the answer was “maybe”.

Now, let’s not expect it to be one of the big announcements of the summer: Jim Ryan, CEO and president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, already said on CNET days ago that the only variant that we will see on the market this year 2020 will be the black and white presented this past week.

Regarding the possibility of seeing special editions of the console, he himself has opted for one, although obviously he is not announcing anything, but has deposited part of his opinion in his response: “I am sure that there will be special editions for everyone, and I hope that there is a special edition of Horizon Forbidden West ”, the new installment of the Guerrilla Games saga, not yet dated.

Changes to the interface of PlayStation 5: completely renewed

Other aspects that transcended the words of MacLaurin are referring to the interface of this new console. As he said, “we will see things soon”, although “it is a bit more pragmatic, but it is a 100% revision of the PS4 interface with some new and different concepts.” This redesign of the interface design that we will see soon is presented as “a very interesting evolution of the operating system, more subtle than not brilliant, but not a pixel has been left untouched”.

All in all, PS5 will launch worldwide in Christmas 2020 at a price yet to be confirmed in both models. We leave in the following articles an updated list with all the confirmed games for PlayStation 5 here and those that are exclusive in this article.
