With the current target of distribution, Sony hopes to surpass 7.6 million units of PS5 before the month of April 2021 arrives.
Sony expects to exceed 7.6 million PS5 units sold by the end of this fiscal year, on March 31, 2021. Hiroki Totoki, CFO of the Japanese firm, has stated at the financial meeting held on Tuesday that the launch of PS5 “ he is in top form ”despite the difficulties of the pandemic, but the ambition is total: they want to reach the numbers of PlayStation 4.

As of September 30, Sony has registered worldwide sales of more than 113 million units of PlayStation 4, which makes it one of the most successful consoles of all time and is, de facto, one of the hardware of most profitable entertainment of all time. “Yes, it is a challenge,” Totoki adds during the question and answer session, when asked about the possibility of reaching those 113 million consoles sold with PS5. “But we are eager and committed to succeeding and exceeding the sales of PS4,” he insists.
Back in October, in a meeting with Naver, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan stated that they hoped to surpass the initial distribution of PS4 with their new PlayStation 5, which was at the time 7 million units in its first fiscal year. (from November 2013 to March 2014).
As for PS Plus, in that financial meeting they have confirmed that there are already more than 45.9 million subscribed members, who already know the free games of this coming November.
PS5 Preorders Break Records; improve those of PS4 in 2013
PS5 reservations have been well above what Sony expected, Jim Ryan himself acknowledged in a recent meeting with Reuters. Specifically, in just twelve hours the PS5 reserves equaled and exceeded the PS4 reserves in twelve weeks back in 2013, an exponential growth in the interest of this new generation of Sony machines.
