PS5: Sony registers a patent focused on user-generated content

Sony continues to apply records for the launch of its next PlayStation 5, although they are not necessarily related to it.

In the absence of just one year for the next generation of Sony home consoles, PlayStation 5, the Japanese company has been applying for the registration of multiple patents for a few weeks; this time at the United States Patent Office, where on November 21 they registered a process of labeling and content management to improve the user experience.

As RespawnFirst advances, the registration is already approved, so Sony can make the use it deems appropriate of the patent. Thanks to this content management process, users can make captures and recordings during their tagged games; that is, with the possibility of making annotations for a query some time later or to filter those contents captured by the player.

Ideas to create and share PlayStation content

Sony Interactive Entertainment does not explicitly specify that the patent will be used on PS5, but it is focused on video games. In the example they give, “the content generated by users includes video recordings or screenshots from the videogame itself, which belong to the events that have taken place. The corresponding metadata would be used to describe substantive aspects about that user-generated content, such as details about where those recordings were made or the screenshots; who was in the user-generated content and what elements are found in that user-recorded content. ”

To this is added that “the metadata associated with user-generated content would allow viewers to experience the same events that were recorded,” something similar to what Google Stadia intends to do in the future with Crowd Play, where viewers can join at the departure of a creator at the click of a button, at the same time of the game

More patents: cartridges, a future command and more

Regarding one of the most recent patents officially registered by Sony in Japan, the one that referred to physical SSD memory cartridges stands out, one that invited to think about a possible use on PlayStation 5. However, they will be used for a new version of the Sony TOIO robot, which has programmable and now also configurable artificial intelligence.

In addition, last week we knew the application of a patent related to the future PlayStation 5 controller, similar in design to the current DualShock 4 and still without a name.

The release date of PlayStation 5 is Christmas 2020 with a catalog of video games yet to be known. Your command, even without a name, will incorporate haptic vibration and improvements that will facilitate the feeling of immersion. A few months ago a new technical demo of the console was shown behind closed doors. And for those who wish to continue playing titles of the past, it is confirmed that PS5 will be compatible with the PS Now service and backward compatible with PS4.
