During today's PS5 presentation, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny also raised the issue of backward compatibility, which at first sounds a bit sobering. Flat-rate all PS4 games will probably not work, but will only gradually join them.

Rather, one speaks of the top 100 PS4 games that will be downward compatible when the PS5 is launched. One is very enthusiastic about it, because there is also a high level of complexity behind the topic.

“Running PS4 titles at elevated frequencies has also increased complexity. The thrust is really huge this time and some game codes can't handle it. The tests must be done title by title. However, the results are excellent. We recently looked at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles by season, and we expect almost all of them to be playable on PlayStation 5 when it launches. ”

What titles that will be, is not yet discussed. Ultimately, however, one assures that the backward compatibility, once it is in the PS5, remains in it and is not lost or canceled by possible savings in the costs of a new version, as was the case with the PS3.
