PS5 will optimize its ventilation system through firmware updates

Sony will use and analyze stored data to further optimize the console system, ensuring improved temperature control.

Sony will collect data on the behavior of the PS5 system to improve the performance of its hardware over time. At the gates of a generation of consoles that promises to be fast, silent and capable of establishing a stable temperature, the Japanese company plans to analyze the data it compiles from users in order to optimize each section of its hardware; in particular, its ventilation and cooling system.

In the words of Yasuhiro Otori, head of the PS5 design team, in a meeting with 4Gamer: “Several games will be released in the future, and the behavior data of the APU (Accelerated Processing Unit) will be collected”, from this mode “we plan to optimize fan control based on this data,” he adds.

Otori goes on to explain that “PS5 has three temperature sensors on the main board to control fan speed based on the internal temperature of the APU, and the maximum temperature peak of the three temperature sensors. Those fan control parameters will also be updated through online updates. “

PS5 exposed: liquid metal for cooling

Just a few weeks ago, Sony showed off a PS5 teardown so we could see each and every component of the console’s chassis. Broadly speaking, one of the most outstanding elements is the renewed liquid metal cooling system, which will work as a link between the SoC core and the heatsink. We are talking about a turbine-type fan with dimensions of 120 x 45 mm, added to a copper heatsink that, they promise, will be of great quality.

Both PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition will hit stores this November 19 in Europe; November 12 in the United States, Mexico, South Korea, Australia and Japan. The console will be priced at 499 euros and 399 euros, respectively. Although the reserves are already open in our country, they are currently completely exhausted; we do not know if there will be more units before the release of the title.
