Ratchet & Clank Director: Rift Apart Praises PS5 SSD: "Goodbye to Load Times"

Marcus Smith talks about how Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will take advantage of the PS5’s capabilities, with a particular focus on SSD memory.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart reappears on the official PlayStation channel after participating in the presentation of PS5. From its creative director, Marcus Smith, we learn new details about how the duo’s new adventure will take advantage of the capabilities of the next generation.

Marcus talks that the concept of the game “would not be possible” without the PlayStation 5 SSD. During the jump between dimensions, it allows the loading of the worlds to be practically instantaneous. “The SSD is incredibly fast. It allows us to build worlds and project the player from one side to the other at almost instantaneous speeds, ”he says. According to him, the loading times have already said goodbye.

Another of the key novelties of the console is through the command. In Smith’s words, DualSense’s haptic feedback “seems tailor-made” for the saga’s weaponry. “The degree of tactile feedback you receive when you use our weapons makes them feel much more powerful, it lets you know how they are behaving.” Take the Enforcer as an example, a double-barreled shotgun that uses adaptive triggers so you know the tension of the barrels. “You can feel the difference between moving half the trigger to fire one cannon or lowering it all the way down to do both.”

Finally, he points to 3D Tempest audio technology as another of the big changes. “It makes a fundamental difference between listening to it through a television and being in the middle of a forest. It transports you the world in a way that until now had not been allowed ”, he concludes.

The list of confirmed games for PS5 has Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart under its belt. Unfortunately, it does not yet have an approximate release date, so we will have to wait for the next few weeks to know what will be in store for it. PS5 is scheduled to arrive at the end of this 2020.
