Capcom Teases Resident Evil Remake Roadmap After Future Titles
Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi announced that the studio is planning a set of new Resident Evil remakes alongside the numbered franchise, setting a blueprint that could bring Resident Evil 5 and 6 back to the canon.
Dual‑Track Development Strategy
Takeuchi explained that Resident Evil will evolve on two parallel paths. “The numbered titles let players follow the ongoing story, while the remake series lets them revisit earlier eras,” he said. “Soon, the remake track will catch up with the numbered era, and we are already planning what that will mean.”
Signals of a Timeline Merge
He noted that from Resident Evil Village onward, Capcom has seeded the remake universe to dovetail with the mainline plot. Names such as Umbrella, Spencer, and the reappearance of Raccoon City in Requiem are deliberate hints toward a future crossover.
Resident Evil 7, 4, and Beyond as Foundations for Remakes
Takeuchi highlighted that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was the turning point where the studio began integrating fan‑service details that resonate across fans. Those elements were expanded in Village and Requiem, laying groundwork that could be refreshed in a future remake of Resident Evil 5 or 6.
Remakes on the Horizon
Both Resident Evil 5 and 6 suffered critical backlash when released, making potential remakes a high‑profile prospect. A new Resident Evil Zero remake has also surfaced after a leaked voice‑actor list, while Resident Evil 9’s DLC is currently in production. Capcom’s current focus remains on Resident Evil Veronica, slated for release in fall 2027.
Unified Narrative Expectation
Remakes currently follow distinct continuities from the numbered games. If Capcom’s strategy pans out, the future remakes could retell the entire mainline series within a single, cohesive storyline, offering fans a complete narrative sweep.
With the studio’s strategic roadmap laid out, the possibility that Resident Evil 5 and 6 remakes will rise to the top of the development agenda appears stronger than ever.
