Capcom today unveiled two new masterminds in Resident Evil Resistance, the free multiplayer part in Resident Evil 3 Remake. The new masterminds add a number of new skills to the game to prevent the survivors from escaping the drug company's insidious experiment. Together with the previously announced masterminds Daniel Fabron and the infamous Annette Birkin, the Duo Umbrellas team rounds off the horror in Resident Evil Resistance.
Fans of the series know Alex Wesker from Resident Evil Revelations 2 and may remember that she prefers to use indirect means to achieve her goals. As an opponent who enjoys achieving her goals through psychological horrors and experiments, she is a perfect mastermind. In their role, players can use traps, roadblocks, and improved zombies to manipulate the environment, slowing survivors' progress. But that's not all: If Alex is really serious, she can fall back on a malicious carnivorous plant called Yateveo: This deadly bio-weapon, when placed in the right place, can be a powerful obstacle that keeps survivors from escaping.
Ozwell E. Spencer is a shadowy antagonist from the Resident Evil series who prefers to let others do his dirty work. As the fourth mastermind in Resident Evil Resistance, Ozwell is now taking a more practical approach. As one of the founders of Umbrella Corporation, he enjoys using the latest company technology to torture survivors. Unlike the other masterminds who summon controllable bioweapons, Ozwell creates a disintegration field that severely damages any survivor who crosses it.
New cards revealed
In addition, two new maps have been released in which the mastermind and survivors try to outwit each other:
- The casino: The still functioning slot machines and chips scattered across the floor testify to the rapid collapse of Raccoon City. Now the casino offers entertainment for survivors looking for thrills and insidious masterminds.
- Abandoned Park: A horror adventure park just outside of Raccoon City that was also suddenly abandoned when zombies and bio-weapons overran the city. Now monsters, both real and imaginary, await visitors.
In each 4v1 match, a mastermind player watches the four survivors through a network of surveillance cameras and tries to stay one step ahead to prevent them from escaping. As a mastermind behind the scenes, players can take on the role of key characters in the series in numerous deadly experiments. They can play cards that manipulate the environment, set traps or arm security cameras to stop survivors. For the first time in the Resident Evil series, masterminds can take control of the best bio weapons like G-Birkin or the Tyrant.
In return, four survivors must work together effectively to save themselves from the experiments with their individual skills and equipment before their time runs out. Each survivor has unique skills that can help the team overcome the mastermind's challenges and survive the grim experiment.
The asymmetrical multiplayer experience Resident Evil Resistance will be released on April 3, 2020 as part of Resident Evil 3.
