Resident Evil Village: Everything We Know So Far

Resident Evil Village: Everything We Know So Far

We review all the data of Resident Evil Village, seen again in the past PS5 Showcase, and that will arrive throughout the next year for the next gen.

We are probably not very daring if we say that the Resident Evil franchise is now in one of its best moments in history, if it has ever had bad ones, since when it was not going down the paths that classic fans expect – Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6-, the sales accompanied, and in what way. However we come from a few years where Capcom is being capable of something unheard of as it is to satisfy practically everyone. On the one hand, it recovers the oldest aspect of survival horror with the fantastic remake of Resident Evil 2 and the remarkable Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, while the main saga continues the trend of independent titles such as Outlast or Amnesia: The Dark Descent, with the production values of a great publisher. Resident Evil Village is the culmination of this formula that does not forget what has made it popular: terror, jump scares and management of limited resources.

It has been 3 years since Capcom knew how to correctly reinvent one of its most popular licenses, if not the most popular one, and as we said, on the basis that small studios such as Red Barrels or Frictional Games had laid in previous years. Resident Evil 7 is surely the strongest break with the previous installments in the already long history of the franchise, even more than the fourth part compared to the original trilogy, but that was not an obstacle to currently becoming the fourth installment more sold. A great merit, without a doubt, considering that those that occupy the podium -5, 6 and 4, respectively- have reached several generations. Thus, after the horror lived with the Bakers and thinking that he could rest easy, Ethan Winters returns as the protagonist and does so due to the problems caused by, it seems, is less than Chris Redfield, at least according to the official description of the game according to Capcom itself. “Years after the nightmare, Ethan Winters has achieved some stability and a normal life with his family. A life that will soon be destroyed by a hero of yesteryear, Chris Redfield, ”they say.

This new peace that Ethan has found is part of Mia, who was the reason for his misfortune in Resident Evil 7, and sometimes even his greatest enemy. She will take an important role again in this new iteration although it is unknown in what way, no matter how much leaks suggest that she could even become a playable character.

Indeed, the peace Ethan has finally found is interrupted by Chris’s strange behavior. In search of an already veteran Redfield, our protagonist goes to a mysterious town located in Europe, which is consistent with the presence of enemies inspired by some of the legends and mythologies of the old continent such as werewolves or according to rumors, even vampires and strigoi, a Romanian word to define the souls of the dead and that already made an appearance in The Strain, the television series created by Guillermo del Toro. Fortunately, and as Outlast II did with respect to its previous installment, everything indicates that the scenarios of Resident Evil Village will be much more open than in Resident Evil 7, so in the absence of knowing more details about the arsenal with which Ethan will tell, it is certain that he will have more possibilities to go unnoticed. That said, backtracking, an aspect also characteristic of the saga, will surely be even more present than in its predecessor, which already had a good dose of this mechanic.

Resident Evil Village

With Slavic mythology present, and as its producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano confessed in an interview with Famitsu, this town will be one more protagonist, a rural setting with which Resident Evil 4 has already flirted, curiously in Spain. Hence, more than the 8 that corresponds to the delivery, they want to emphasize the Village, an area where snow is a constant and who knows, also one more enemy from which to protect oneself. It is to be expected that we will see an advanced proposal in this regard, in terms of the environment, since it is one of the reasons given by Capcom for Resident Evil Village only to reach PS5, Xbox Series and PC: the limitations of the current hardware, which less after two months it will cease to be.

Who is behind Resident Evil Village?

For this profound renewal of the franchise, Capcom has brought several proper names to the fore, most of them very young. At the controls of this new installment, the Japanese company has once again trusted Tsuyoshi Kanda, who already served as a producer in Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 7. The other proper name is Peter Fabiano, with a broader curriculum and having worked, in addition to the games mentioned above, in the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil: Revelations, a game that was an oasis in the desert for those who longed for the classic formula when the saga drifted mainly towards popcorn action from installments 5 and 6. Also, curiously, Fabiano lends his face to Peter Walken, one of the characters who disappears at the beginning of Resident Evil 7.

Both are a guarantee that Resident Evil Village will maintain the current identity of the brand, in addition to creating, according to the popular Capcom insider Dusk Golem, “the largest Resident Evil among all those developed with the RE Engine” – all from the seventh installment, including Resistance- and the engine that also runs the no less successful Devil May Cry V. We will discover all the secrets and horrors that this town hides in 2021, on PS5, Xbox Series and PC.
