The North American company acquires the Dundee-based development team, Scotland, and turns it into Rockstar Dundee. All the details.

Rockstar Games has closed the purchase of Ruffian Games Limited, a small British video game company based in Dundee, Scotland, which we remember for their work on Crackdown 2 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, among others. The North American company thus introduces this new European asset to its list of equipment and makes it Rockstar Dundee.

The information, advanced by TheGamer, became effective this October 1, but according to various job offers, the negotiations come from much earlier; in fact, they have been working on a series of “unspecified” video games for more than a year, so it is possible that they are collaborating not only on one but on several of the upcoming titles from the authors of Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Max Payne 3.

Ruffian Games, a company made up of industry veterans

Ruffian Games was founded in 2008 with veterans from companies like Climax, DMA Design, and RealTime World; professionals with experience in licenses such as Grand Theft Auto itself, Fable 2, Project Gotham Racing or the original Crackdown. According to its official website, what in its day was a workforce made up of less than 10 people had 27 employees until the end of last year.

It is unknown, however, what will be the first project Rockstar Dundee works on and if it will happen like so many other small European Take-Two Interactive locations, which receive outsourced work from large North American locations for specific parts of their projects.

After Grand Theft Auto 5 in 2013 and Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, it is unknown what Rockstar Games has on their hands. Fans wish it was the turn of GTA 6, the next episode of the famous open world license, but for now they are mere wishes. From FreeGameTips we have recently voted for the best video games in the history of Rockstar; These are the results.
