During the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, the Dale Coyne Racing Honda driven by Grosjean was clipped by Alexander Rossi at Turn 3, prompting the Swiss‑born Frenchman to retire after 91 laps in 20th place on the 1.645‑mile street circuit. A post‑race X‑ray later revealed a displaced screw on the pinky side of his right hand, leading to a brief surgical procedure in Indianapolis on Monday.
Recovery and preparation
Following the operation, Grosjean posted a series of images that included the X‑ray, a snapshot of his recovery, and footage of him back in a simulator alongside Arrow McLaren Team Principal Tony Kanaan. He praised the medical team for their work and confirmed clearance to compete at the St. Louis event, scheduled for 9 p.m. ET.

Through eight of the 18‑race IndyCar calendar, Grosjean sits 21st in the points standings, having secured two top‑10 finishes this season.
