Rumor: Sony plans to take over Zenimax / Bethesda, Starfield allegedly discontinued

Playfront

As soon as the new year begins, the first wild rumors start to circulate that Sony is planning to take over Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda. In the course of this, the 'Starfield' project is said to have been discontinued.

This message is currently on Reddit for high waves and comes from a user named 'zenimaxinsider' who has only been active there for a few weeks. However, his posts have now been declared admissible, even if there is currently no evidence.

Takeover is expected to close shortly

According to this, the final takeover of Zenimax by Sony should be completed towards the end of the month or early February. The Starfield project, which was announced quite a while ago, is said to have been discontinued 3 months ago. What currently speaks against it is that the brand protection for Starfield was only renewed a few weeks ago.

The work on The Elder Scrolls VI, which is due to appear sometime in 2022, will continue. Remakes of the Fallout games are also planned for next year. We would like to provide more details shortly.

Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to prove whether this is actually the case, which is why you have to wait for more information here. If this deal should actually come about, Sony would have pulled a pretty big fish and a lot of exclusive brands.
