Kyle Larson clinched the Osky Challenge title at Southern Iowa Speedway, passing Ryan Timms in the final five laps after a side‑by‑side contact that clipped Timms’ nose wing.
Race Dynamics
With five laps remaining, Larson moved inside Timms entering turn four. The close duel produced a hard brush that tore the wing from Timms’ front end, forcing a slide and dropping him from the lead position.
As a result, Larson secured his third consecutive Osky Challenge victory, marking his fifth overall triumph in six years. Timms recovered to finish third, with Corey Day claiming second.
Driver Reactions
“I seen him coming up. Initially, I was going to try and drive around it. And I realized he wasn’t letting me, giving me any room,” remarked Timms after the race.
Larson added, “He was getting nervous in one and two, and started making mistakes. I’m sure it wasn’t the cleanest move. I’m sure if anyone has followed his career he’s made a lot of mistakes as well.”
Both drivers met for a brief, stern confrontation in Victory Lane. After the finish, Larson claimed that Shane Liebig, the owner of Timms’ No. 10 car, insulted him with a racial slur, a claim he suggested was “fine” but worthy of a reaction.
Future Encounter
Larson and Timms are slated to compete again at the Granddaddy of Them All at Knoxville Raceway later this week. Weather conditions will be critical in determining whether the rematch proceeds as scheduled.
