Sakurai doesn't say what he plays to avoid fan speculation with Smash Bros. Ultimate

It just plays for pleasure, but fans see confirmations all over the place with the first name that comes out and link it to Smash Bros.

Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Smash Bros. Ultimate, explains on Famitsu that he doesn’t share what he’s currently playing because fans think that means characters from those games are confirmed for the Switch title. In the column published in the Japanese media, the creator and habitual video game player explains that he prefers not to encourage unfounded speculations, depending on what he says at some point about games he is trying.

“I usually play a lot of games, but if people know what kind of games I’m playing, they will have a tendency to speculate like, ‘Is Sakurai confirming this for Smash?'” He laments. Sakurai warns that speculation and misunderstandings spread very quickly on the Internet, especially outside Japan, and that to avoid these situations he does not explain on Twitter or anywhere what he is playing.

Arms, upcoming smash bros characters

For this same reason, Sakurai also declines to participate as a guest in television shows that focus on a specific game. It is also not surprising that fans are hungry for news, since Smash Bros Ultimate is waiting for new characters for its second fighter pass, which will end in late 2021 and has currently confirmed as the last fighter to representatives of ARMS, the Nintendo’s fighting game released a couple of years ago.

The best-selling fighting game in history

Smash Bros. Ultimate was confirmed to November 2019, one year after its release, as the most successful fighting game in the entire history of the genre, surpassing the 15 million units that will be more right now, breaking the Street Fighter record II that was also above 15 million. To get used to the idea of sales volume, Street Fighter V has just over four million, while Dragon Ball FighterZ has placed itself with more than five million, both being two of the main references of the genre in the present generation of consoles.
