Sam & Max are back with a new VR game, Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual!

Gamescom 2020 leaves us the announcement of the return (in virtual reality format) of Sam & Max, two of the most beloved characters of the LucasArts factory.

It was one of the surprises at Gamescom 2020: Opening Night Live. Sam & Max are back. The legendary LucasArts characters will return in a new virtual reality adventure called Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual! It is being developed by Happy Giant and will arrive on PC in 2021, although a version for PS4 and PlayStation VR is not ruled out. Although Happy Giant is a young studio that until now had been dedicated to augmented reality titles (such as HoloGrid: Monster Battle, inspired by Star Wars), this time it will have the support of several of the creators and members of the original Sam & Max.

Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual! will resurrect the characters after more than a decade in oblivion. His last games were the graphic adventures of Telltale Games, which ended in 2010 with a third season called The Devil’s Playhouse. Since then we had not heard from both heroes, who in their day were part of the most beloved and acclaimed imaginary of the LucasArts factory, in which they were at the forefront of graphic adventures along with other classics of the time, such as Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. Although we hardly know details of this new adventure, from the trailer it seems that, at the very least, it will retain a sense of humor.

Other surprises from Gamescom 2020

But the return of Sam & Max was not the only surprise that Gamescom 2020 left us. We also had the first trailer for Dragon Age 4, or the first details of the future that lies ahead “the game of summer”, Fall Guys and its season 2, with a medieval theme. They have been joined by the presentation trailer for the new Call of Duty, a direct sequel to the original Black Ops called Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and an impressive gameplay by Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, which has also confirmed that it will arrive very soon at the launch of PS5. Last but not least, the virtual reality genre did not settle for this Sam & Max: This Time It’s Virtual! and also announced Medal of Honor Above and Beyond, a VR shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order …).
