The South Korean firm says it will manufacture the data storage disk of a new generation console in the framework of a technology forum in Tokyo.
Samsung, the popular South Korean brand manufacturer of all types of hardware and technological components, will be responsible for manufacturing the SSD disk of PS5 or Xbox Scarlett; This has been assured by those responsible for the technology firm in the framework of a forum on SSD technology recently held in Tokyo. Of course, the console for which they will manufacture the SSDs has not been specified at any time; It has only been announced for a new generation console that will be released in 2020.
New NVMe SSD for the new generation
And although Samsung has ensured that it works on a new NVMe SSD (Non-Volatile Memory Express), no clue has been offered on the console model that will receive this new device; However, in the same presentation it has been seen that Samsung officials were running a DualShock 4, which could suggest that Sony is the beneficiary of this new disc for its PlayStation 5.
According to Samsung, it is a new SSD unit that will allow to open a new stage in the video game industry for consoles, with much shorter loading times and a much faster switching on of them. It is a type of SSD that looks similar to the RAM units of a PC although its capacity has not been specified for now.
Be that as it may, the next two consoles from Sony and Microsoft will bet on this type of technology for their storage units at the end of 2020, at which time they will go on sale. At the moment we have much more specific technical data of PlayStation 5, hardware that Sony has been presenting gradually in recent months. We hope to know more details during the next months until the most probable presentation of both systems around the next E3 2020.
