Sonic 2 on Switch has a dream come true: a way to always be Super Sonic

The game comes with variants and news regarding the original. It is for 6.99 euros.

Sonic 2 arrived last week at Nintendo Switch under the SEGA Ages label, which is responsible for moving some of the classics of the Japanese company to other platforms. So far, all normal. But this version brings several interesting news and elements, such as having the Knuckles version available to play with the echidna. Of course, one of the additions to celebrate is precisely the Super Sonic mode, a dream for those of us who were little when we met, perhaps, the best hedgehog game. Being able to always be the golden version of Sonic without having to collect the emeralds of chaos or collect 50 rings.

The proposal of this version, already available in the eShop for 6.99 euros, is as follows: when you finish the game for the first time, the Super Sonic mode is unlocked. Complicated? Not really. The title allows you to choose any level from the beginning and allows you to save and load game at any time. So it is as simple as going directly to the last level of all, where we fight against a metallic Sonic and then against Robotnik, we overcome them (using save / load if you do not know this memory match) and then we will have the Super Sonic mode available. When we play, we choose this mode and when it starts, we jump to transform.

The trick of the sound menu and the chaos emeralds

The original game allowed us to access Super Sonic quickly if in the level selection menu we went to the song selector and gave the play to songs 4, 1, 2 and 6. At that time the sound of the emeralds sounded of the chaos and we had available to become Super Sonic … When we collected 50 rings. This trick is also available in the Switch version, but it differs from the Super Sonic mode that in this, we don't need to collect rings directly. Of course, when we transform the title automatically gives us 50 of them that are spent, as in the original, being able to lose the transformation.

Other interesting news: from Knuckles to Sonic Mania

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 brings with it other interesting news in this version of Switch. One of them is that it maintains the competitive mode for two players. Another is that they add the drop dash movement present in Sonic Mania, something that can give us a good help at certain moments of the title. In addition to Super Sonic mode, we will also have the possibility to play the version of the title with Knuckles and do exactly the same but with Super Knuckles. To all this is added the presence of a Time Trial mode with online rankings, in which we will have to run against the clock to collect 100 rings as soon as possible. The key, look for the fastest routes to optimize time. It can be done with both Knuckles and Sonic.

The version also allows you to save repetitions and watch them again, as well as a Ring Keep mode that allows us to keep rings even if the enemies hit us. Finally, we can choose from the menu if we play the international or Japanese version. A careful version in terms of elements beyond using the original Mega Drive game.
