Sonic becomes the most successful video game adaptation and beats Pikachu

The short-term postponement of the release of ‘Sonic The Hedghog’ and the redesign of the hero was well worth it for Paramount Pictures. The film is now one of the most successful video game adaptations, even before Detective Pikachu.

As reported now, Sonic The Hedghog was able to generate around $ 57 million in the opening week – for comparison: Detective Pikachu raised “only” $ 54.3 million in the same period. The worldwide gross profit is currently around 100 million dollars.

The script for the fast-paced and cool action fun was written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller. Directed by Oscar-nominated Jeff Fowler (“Gopher Broke”, “Where the wild guys live”), who has already gained experience working with animated characters and is now making his feature film debut with Sonic.

One of the best-known German influencers – Julien Bam (over 5 million YouTube subscribers) – was won over as the German voice-over for the title character. On Sonic’s side, “Westworld” actor James Marsden can be seen as policeman Tom. The role of Sonic’s insane archenemy Dr. Robotnik has taken on comedy star Jim Carrey (“Bruce Almighty”, “Dumb and Dumber”).

Sonic The Hedghog can now also be seen in German cinemas.
