Sonic The Movie advances its release date in digital format

The film, which premiered on Valentine's Day, stars the SEGA hedgehog, so fast that it's about to be released in digital format.

From the cinema to the small screen. SEGA's mascot, run that runs you, is about to reach its destination: the domestic market. It will not do it on Blu-Ray and DVD for a few months, but Paramount has decided to advance its release in digital format. This is so because despite its good performance at the box office, the coronavirus crisis (COVID-19) has directly affected all the main markets. In this way, many of the cinemas have been closed before Sonic The Movie completed its tour on the film circuit. That being the case, the release date has been confirmed for March 31.

Premiere on DVD and Blu-Ray

As for the editions in physical format, there are no plans to commercialize the film until May 19, 2020. The film, which became the best box office premiere of a video game-based film (in North American territory), continued to offer big figures for just a few days. In fact, it was on the verge of becoming the production of this type that has performed best in the American box office. Only Pokémon: Detective Pikachu was ahead, with only a million dollars difference.

On the other hand, the dominance in the international market is not as marked, since it is positioned seventh, still behind movies like Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Warcraft, Prince of Persia or Detective Pikachu itself. Translated into numbers, the film has garnered more than $ 300 million internationally.

Sonic The Movie was scheduled for November 2019, but the design of its main character did not satisfy fans of the hedgehog. In this way, Paramount made the decision to delay the premiere for a few months to focus on improving the product, something that crystallized in a more consistent and faithful design with the original character.
