Soul Calibur 6 reborn: deep playable changes, new season pass and World Tour

The sixth installment of Soul Calibur adds a lot of new content. We have already played it.

Soul Calibur returned with his sixth installment and wanted to give war in the genre of 3D fighting, where there is currently a clear reference: Tekken 7. Bandai Namco's mythical delivery returned, also, wanting to recover the essence of games like Soul Calibur II and leave behind experiments like that fifth part that he wanted to drink from the essence of the fighting game of his time. And although this SC6 did things very well, it did not achieve the desired impact. On November 25 a version 2.0 was announced with a lot of changes that have made the game reborn, and in what way. If someone wants to release in the title, now is the ideal time. Soul Calibur VI is reborn.

After trying the general changes and some characters, we realize that we are facing an expansion of the game far beyond what we could consider a DLC. If it were not because the template is the same and the audiovisual section too, it could well be a new installment in playable terms. The highlights are the new universal mechanics that have been changed for this occasion, the impact of resistance being the most interesting of all.

It is a movement that spends half a soul bar and allows us to repel any attack, even the unblockable ones. This brings a decisive playable change in the game, since according to what situations we were totally sold because there was no escape. In other installments, the Guard Impact allowed us to repel absolutely everything, but here neither lethal attacks nor unblockable ones can be stopped in this way. Therefore, the impact of resistance brings that movement that allows to repel these attacks and, as they say, have a comeback option. In this way we recover a key mechanic in the saga: being able to have a tool that responds to any offensive.

The second is the soul attack, a system that allows us to activate the soul load in combo. Until now we had the option of activating it with a command, something that had invulnerability but that kept the enemy away from us. With this command, we can make a combo and activate it within it, thus converting the soul load into an offensive and combeable tool.

To this are added changes in other known mechanics: backhand attacks change certain properties: when guarding, there is no clash of attacks as before; in the grips, even if we react and do tech, they will do us some damage (we will not be able to receive a KO for this) and the soul bar will gain more energy for the attacker even if the opponent breaks the grip. There are also several changes in vulnerability when we make a lateral or backward step, more punishment window if we fail a Guard Impact and other changes to solve certain problems.

Changes in all the characters and new fighters on the way

It is in the characters where we could spend hours watching movements and changes. All have received several new shares and modifications to existing ones. If we take as an example Cervantes, which is one of the characters that I have used most in the saga, we see that extra movements have been added to his Soul Attack, which has 8 new actions and several improvements: attacks with more hitbox, others with more damage, others that sell less … And so with up to more than twenty changes.

The same goes for 2B, another of our favorite characters, with 10 new actions and various balance adjustments. And we could go on with everyone. The feeling is that the characters have been reformulated with known movements, but also other unpublished ones (Sacred Azure, Spanish top player, recently commented on BCN Fighters that they had given a new bass to Sophitia who had been claiming since the first installment and that gives him many more unpublished tools throughout the saga).

All this accompanied by the announcement of a Season pass 2 with new characters that will arrive via DLC, among which is Hilde (who debuted in Soul Calibur IV) already available to buy and Haohmaru, SNK franchise fighter who will debut in the title. With them comes more content in the form of history and new accessories and items are also expected for the creation mode.

It is important to note at this point that also new scenarios will come, one normal and one for training mode and that more are expected on the way. Taking into account the use of walls for combos and ring outs, it is no less that more locations will be added to combat.

And finally, World Tour

Finally, earlier this month it was announced by surprise that the game would have World Tour, something that is spreading in current games and that allows focusing efforts on the competitive scene. It was missed in its first season, something that did not help boost the game, and that this appointment is now scheduled with a first stop at the EVO Japan in January shows that Bandai Namco wants to support the game more than he He did on his way out.
