Steam eliminates more than 2900 clone games with stolen content

The digital distribution chain of Valve has made one of its particular cleaning periods to leave only legitimate games.

Valve has eliminated 2903 Steam games in the last twenty four hours. The American company, which has just announced Half-Life: Alyx, has reapplied the content cleaning filter to prevent videogames with stolen content from being sold or simply clones from other originals.

This is the case of the hundreds of games that are no longer available in what is the largest digital video game distribution chain today. Valve fights against this type of content for a long time, but the considered "shovelware" (something like "junk games" in computer jargon) does not stop appearing every day. According to data from the beginning of this course, in 2018 9300 games were published; In 2017, more than 6700 titles were published.

The estimates are that in 2019 more than 10,000 games have been published at the end of the month of December, so the figure eliminated on this occasion is very considerable given the circumstances (there are more than 30,000 games on Steam today).

From the Steam Madjoki website, the total number of deleted videogames is listed, a list where you can see many copies, clones or uses of brands without permission.

Fall sales begin on Steam

This type of cleaning on Steam does not happen at random, but at key moments of the season. As we saw weeks ago, the winter sales – which are the highest sales of the whole year – will take place from December 19 to January 2. In addition, this November 26 begins the autumn sales, which coincide with the dates of Black Friday.

Valve is thus free of possible legal problems by having videogames in its store that do not comply with the regulations for the use of copyrighted content, although, despite the number eliminated, Gabe Newell's firm will continue to eliminate content that will appear soon.
