Former Haas Formula One team principal Guenther Steiner said he remains open to a championship return if the role qualifies as a genuine project.
Steiner, who stepped down from Haas in January 2024, quickly translated his “project” ethos into a vibrant media presence, joining The Red Flags Podcast as a recurring guest and serving as a television pundit during live paddock coverage.
He also acquired an ownership stake in the Red Bull KTM Tech3 MotoGP outfit, diversifying his racing portfolio beyond Formula One.
Project‑Centric Approach
During an interview on the Up To Speed podcast – co‑hosted by Jolie Sharpe and former driver David Coulthard – Steiner clarified that a “project” goes beyond a conventional job title; it “allows you to shape your destiny.”
He explained that the excitement required to keep him motivated is rooted in the challenge and autonomy found in building something from the ground up, rather than simply fulfilling assigned duties.
Beyond the Track
While describing his television stint, Steiner joked that he originally entered the medium “to be as good as David.” He admitted he hadn’t yet reached that benchmark, but the experience was easier to acquire after he’d founded an F1 team than after competing in a seat as a driver.
Steiner’s eclectic career—spanning team leadership, broadcasting, and motorsport investment—underscores the breadth of his professional interests.

In closing, Steiner emphasised that any return to Formula One would hinge on finding a project that aligns with his passion for steering, influencing, and problem‑solving.
