After several delays and problems arising from COVID-19, Universal Studios Japan will open this themed area of the park in a few days.
Nintendo has announced that Super Nintendo World will open its doors on March 18, 2021 at Universal Studios Japan, located in Osaka, Japan. The theme area of the existing amusement park will open its doors to the public in a matter of days after several delays; several of them aggravated by the difficulties of COVID-19.
The information, shared through the social network Twitter on Monday morning, makes it clear that the opening will initially have limited capacity and with special security measures in hygiene and social distancing tasks.
Although Universal Studios Japan’s initial commitment was to inaugurate the thematic space on February 4, in January 2021 we learned that this opening was delayed indefinitely as a result of the state of emergency decreed in Tokyo by COVID-19. The official web portal dedicated to the Super Nintendo World Direct last December has been updated with a short message indicating the new opening date; without further details.

Super Nintendo World was originally presented back in July 2017 and construction began in October 2018. Attendees at the venue will be able to wear an interactive bracelet linked to a mobile application with which to face challenges, achievements and rankings. According to the images shown last November, this themed area of Universal Studios Japan will feature frozen zones, a Bowser castle, Mario Karts and many other recognizable places from the plumber productions among its attractions.
Finally, March will be the opening month of the long-awaited project where Shigeru Miyamoto has been especially involved. As far as we know, attractions such as Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge and Yoshi’s Adventure are currently confirmed. On the sidelines of the activities there will be stores where you can buy merchandising and products derived from the brand.
Regarding Super Nintendo World of Orlando, located in the Epic Universe of Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, United States, its new release date is set in the year 2025.
