Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the abundance of swordsmen; Sakurai responds

Masahiro Sakurai insists that the selection of fighters for the Nintendo Switch video game is not up to him; seeks to get the most out of it.

Masahiro Sakurai has reiterated that the selection of the characters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate does not depend on his criteria. In conversations during a recent episode of the Washa Live podcast (via NintendoEverything), the Japanese creative, head of the saga, has once again explained the situation, repeatedly asked about the large presence of sword fighters.

During the interview, one of the hosts puts the swordsmen on the table, and that’s when Sakurai makes his position clear: he is in charge of working on designing each new addition as best as possible, he does not choose the character in question. “Like it or not, it’s not up to me if yet another swordsman comes into the game.” What if in the future there is another character possessing a sword? “Well, even if it is another sword fighter, it will be fine as long as we balance it properly,” he replies.
