The Cantina: Xbox Live Gold goes up in price

The announcement of the price increase for the Xbox service sparked a controversy on social networks and we debated about it

This Friday the 22nd Microsoft through the official Xbox blog announced that the Xbox Live Gold service would increase in price in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, Spain, United States, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Sigapur, Sweden, Switzerland, South Africa and Turkey with the exception of most of Latin American countries including Mexico. This unleashed the controversy in social networks to the point of becoming a trend on Twitter and therefore we brought the issue to the table at the Cantina Meristation.

Carlos Fernández de Lara from Forbes México and Gabriel Huerta, former editor of IGN Latam, gave us their point of view of the possible reasons for this change and if it could be related to an indirect promotion of the Xbox Game Pass service.

The changes that had occurred in the North American market for example were in the monthly service from $ 9.99 to $ 10.00 dollars, only a dollar difference. In the quarterly it would go up $ 5 to reach the price of $ 29.99 and in the semester it would rise to $ 59.99.

In the second part of the program, the guests talked about the Resident Evil VIII showcase, the game’s graphics, which featured Ray Tracing, the special editions, the demo available on PS5, the movie that is being prepared for Netflix, same as will star Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil II, the multiplayer of RE: Verse and the 25th anniversary of the saga.

Like all programs, the audience had an active participation through chats on Facebook, YouTube and Twich with comments related to both topics.

It should be noted that 1 hour after finishing the table through its Twitter account, Xbox confirmed that the price increases for Xbox Live Gold would not take place.
