The Last of Us Part 2 disappears from PlayStation Store after delaying its launch

The long-awaited Naughty Dog video game is no longer available for pre-booking on the PS4 digital portal due to the indefinite delay.

Sony has temporarily removed the availability of The Last of Us Part 2 through the PS Store. The company, which announced a few days ago the indefinite delay of the Naughty Dog video game for PS4 planned for May due to the world crisis caused by the coronavirus, thus withdraws the possibility of reserving the game in all its digital editions until new notice.

The measure, which affects the North American, British and Spanish portals, among many others, is not unique nor should it raise any type of alarm: they are measures that have already been taken in the past. In fact, Marvel’s Avengers – which was also delayed a few months ago for the month of September – also temporarily disappeared from the PS Store.

When we tried to access the official page of The Last of Us Part 2 in the PS Store to reserve the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which included some bonuses for its reservation as a PSN avatar, among other added incentives, the message we see appears in the image: “This page cannot be found”. It is hoped, however, that Sony will wait to determine what will be the new release date of the game in the face of a reactivation of those reservations and, therefore, the countdown to know Ellie's new adventure on PS4.

Neil Druckmann, convinced of the potential of the game

Earlier this week, Sony has removed some leaked gameplay videos from the game that is still in development. Both companies have intervened in the propagation of this material, whose origin is unknown, but was real. Neil Druckmann, vice president of Naughty Dog and creative director of the work, explained in an interview why there will not be a demo in the near future as a measure to compensate for the indefinite delay of the game: it involves a lot of work for the team, currently concentrated on eliminating bugs.

And that is perhaps the most positive point of the delay, described by Druckmann himself as "disappointing": the game is almost over. The first delay. (from February to May) has allowed Naughty Dog to have reached the month of April with the development channeled to the final stretch; Currently, they only had to eliminate bugs. The statement issued by the Californian company showed its intention to make this delay without a specific date translate into a small period of time, so that it does not make itself beg more than desired and they can launch the game as soon as possible. The last word is held by COVID-19, whose spread in the United States has not reached its famous peak.
