The interpreter, who also played Frodo Baggins in a BBC fiction, passed away on June 19 at the age of 88.

In the late 1990s, director Peter Jackson embarked on a journey along with a cast of actors, artists, and professionals from many fields. The ambitious filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy began and the adventure of Bilbo Baggins and the Fellowship of the Ring was successfully transferred to the cinema. Sir Ian Holm was in charge of giving life to Bilbo Baggins, the old Hobbit who decades ago had broken all the rules of his community to launch into adventure. On June 19, his family confirmed that he had passed away, for which now the Lord of the Rings Online community has paid him a well-deserved tribute.

Through an image shared by users, it has been shown how many players have come to Rivendel to approach Bilbo’s house, the place where he resides in the Lord of the Rings MMO. According to Reddit member Ch_Mell, a total of 300 people gathered at this location to remember the deceased actor. On other servers, the meeting has been in the Shire and there have even been fireworks to remember Holm.

As if that were not enough, the social networks of the video game have reported that they will extend the mission of Bilbo’s birthday until June 23. “In addition, we will extend the Spring Festival until June 29,” they explain in the tweet.

The Lord of the Rings Online is one of the oldest video games based on the well-known saga written by J.R.R. Tolkien. Unlike the Warner Bros titles, which are licensed in the cinematic universe, Standing Stone Games’ work takes its inspiration from novels.

Ian Holm passed away on June 19 at the age of 88 and in peace, as his family reported in the official statement.
