Masayoshi Yokoyama is one of many voices in Sega who advocates continuing both the formula of the latest installment and its main protagonist.

Having already been on the Japanese market for two months and being a great success, as expected, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is still the seventh main installment, has meant a 180 degree turn in some formulas of the franchise. The turn-based combat is just the first in a series of novelties that the Ryo Ga Gotoku Studio has implemented after six installments where most of its main mechanics had barely been changed, and precisely for this reason, the Japanese are attentive to the reaction of the fans, whose opinion "depends on the future of the saga", according to its producer Masayoshi Yokoyama.

Like a Dragon, a line to follow

This is stated in a peculiar interview with the medium 4Gamer in which the Japanese fighter Danshoku Dino, a big fan of the Yakuza series, also participates, and in which both discuss what is to come. Dino has been writing columns for this portal for a decade, with what really seems an authorized voice to comment on the Sega franchise, and in collation of this, this interview comes as a consequence of one of those columns in which he talks about how much he has liked Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The producer of Yakuza assures that the future of the saga "depends on the fans"

In it they talk about various aspects of the game: the end, the new combat system, the cameos of other characters in the saga, mini-games, etc … and in which there are obviously multiple spoilers, which we do not recommend much less read it in full. What should be known is, as we said, Yokoyama's impression of the future of Yakuza.

"Basically, what we do next depends on player feedback with Yakuza: Like a Dragon," says Yokoyama. “How the saga goes by and whether we make a sequel or not is something that the players ultimately decide. Like a Dragon is a new beginning, so we could do anything from now on: we could do Yakuza 8, a spin off, a game with multiple protagonists… But personally I would like to continue the story of Ichiban, one game is not enough ” .

Words that Sega Chief Creative Officer Toshihiro Nagoshi seconded not long ago, who also stated that the logical next step would be to keep Ichiban Kasuga as the main protagonist, as well as turn-based combat.

The launch of Yakuza: Like a Dragon is confirmed in the west, for PS4, but not its specific date.
