The PS5 SSD will mean "a paradigm shift" in video game design

PS5: official technical specifications: SSD, RAM, Teraflops and more

A developer at Quantum League has his say on what he expects from Sony's home machine, whose SSD memory seduces the industry.

Once we met the final specifications of the PlayStation 5 from the hand of the architect of the Sony console, Mark Cerny, the video game development industry agrees on the fact that the SSD memory that will integrate that hardware is what most arouses interest, not just for speed but for the way it will improve video game design. Balthazar Auger of Nimble Giant Entertainment believes it will be "a paradigm shift."

Now, this developer of the Quantum League video game has indicated to Gaming Bolt that SSD memory "should definitely help with load times", but "as a video game and level designer, what I will probably bring back over time is a change in the paradigm in how we structure the worlds of our games and how detailed they can be ”.

Already explained by a former developer of Naughty Dog: the PS5 SSD memory will allow both much faster access to games (without load times in between) and greater ease to design worlds and environments richer in content.

825 GB of SSD: this is how the memory of PlayStation 5 will work

All in all, that SSD will be 825 GB of storage with 12 optimized channels and a bandwidth target of 5.5 GB per second. The PS5 SSD will be piloted by a four-track PCI Express 4.0 controller 100 times greater than that of a PS4, which had a bandwidth of 50 to 100 MB per second; speeds of up to 5.5 GB per second will now be achievable.

Having a fast SSD memory will allow games to be rendered at a higher resolution without giving up performance and will allow us to have more enemies on the screen simultaneously; without reducing the texture load or the drawing distance.

However, Sony remains determined to launch PS5 "in late 2020", as reflected in its official portal. The price is still unknown, but the FreeGameTips community is clear on what their choice is. In the following articles we review the differences between PS5 and PS4 and how the backward compatibility of PlayStation 5 with PS4 works. Also, in this report we tell you everything we know about PS5 and all the games confirmed for the console.
