The Witcher: everything we know about the second season

We tell you when the second season of The Witcher for Netflix will start shooting, what premiere date is in mind, what to expect from the story …

Admit it. You have finished the first eight chapters of The Witcher before even eight days have passed since its premiere. What eight days. Less. Before the end of the three days that made up its launch weekend. Quiet, we understand you. And that's why we also know the questions you're asking yourself right now. "Now what? When does the second season arrive? Because there will be another … right? You should not worry for two reasons. The first, because yes, there will be a second season, and the second, because we are here to tell you everything we know about it.

Planned 7 seasons

Given its warm reception by critics and audiences, it is likely that you already suspected that the series was going to move forward, but what you may not know is that its showrunner, Lauren Hissrich, has planned up to seven seasons. "The worst thing we could do was put all our energies in the first season without thinking about how much these characters can grow," said Hissrich a few weeks ago. "The series team has drawn a plot map for 7 seasons and has thought about how to make a story that catches the audience for several years." Even so, the author herself also warned of something that many of you may have noticed during the last episodes, and that is "that does not mean that all the characters will survive and reach the end …".

The seven seasons make sense if we attend that The Witcher wants to pick up the Game of Thrones witness (also with seven) and, not only that, but also, it is based on the nine books of Andrzej Sapkowski, of which you can find here a recommended reading order and in which the Geralt de Rivia character appears as the protagonist as many times as there are planned seasons. In fact, the first eight chapters are especially inspired by The Last Wish, second book by Sapkowski (first in chronological order). A collection of stories that do not even cover all and that shows the dimensions of this universe.

When does the second season arrive?

On November 13, more than a month after its release, Lauren Hissrich announced that Netflix's confidence in the Warlock was so great that The Witcher had been officially renewed for a second season. A new batch of chapters that, as they point out from Variety, will enter the production phase in early 2020, with its premiere in 2021 in mind, although it is unknown if on dates similar to these or if it will come forward and arrive in summer or autumn . We will have to wait two years to see Henry Cavill again as The Witcher.

What can we expect from The Witcher Season 2?

The only official so far are the statements of the showrunner to Deadline magazine in which he confirms the return of his leading trio: Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri). The rest are clues and brief advances of Hissrich herself. “What I can say is that the first season has been a lot about building. Build the world, its rules, prepare the characters, put them in their respective paths and tear down those dominoes, ”said Lauren. “When the second season comes, all those things we have created will start to play for real. All the kingdoms of which you barely heard anything in the first will begin to surface. And with them everything we create. The characters will begin to know each other and sometimes they will get along … and sometimes they will not. Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri, Yennefer and Ciri … The narration will be a little more intense in some way and maybe it will focus more and boost what we want to tell. ”
