The challenge was to design a compelling armor for Geralt, "which had to offer a dark and dangerous aspect," but also allow Henry (Cavill, the actor who plays the character) to move freely with his muscular body. As Lauren S. Hissrich, showrunner of the series pointed out, the first season tells the first measures of the Nilfgaard army, so that should also be reflected in their clothes.
