There will be no E3 2020, of any kind

Plans for an online summer event are canceled. There will be no E3 this year for the first time since 1995.

If on March 12 it was already official that E3 would not be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center this year, today ESA, the association of video game companies that organizes the event, has announced that it will not be held in any format. In the original announcement of the cancellation, the door was opened to organize a digital event with the participation of large companies in the sector, which would serve as a substitute for a traditional and beloved event in the sector, despite the problems of different kinds that were going through in recent years. But representatives of the association have already confirmed that it will not be held either, which means the final cancellation of the event this year.

Until 2021

The organization, which already claims to be working on a renewed and reimagined event for 2021, had explored the possibility of saving the furniture with the collaboration of the main houses. But those plans have proven unfeasible; some companies have announced their own digital events for those who do not need the organization's umbrella; others like Bethesda directly are not going to organize anything immediate. ESA will therefore limit itself to promoting the events held by companies in its orbit.

It will be the first time since 1995 in which the video game sector has not held its own fair in one of the main markets such as the United States -Gamescom and TGS, for the moment, keep their dates in August and September, respectively-. The fair, almost always held in Los Angeles, has been the scene of great moments in the history of the video game and is always a must-see place to try out some of the hottest releases of the following months.
