The classic by Illusion Software and Daniel Vávra will return in better conditions than you could have dreamed of, with a very renewed graphic aspect
When everyone was speculating about the Mafia Trilogy teaser that 2K had released, what it would mean for the trilogy, and under what conditions the games would come, Microsoft "got away with the cat" and published a datasheet in the Microsoft Store with information and images of what would be called Mafia: Definitive Edition. But the news, beyond the return of an authentic video game classic, has not been that, but rather the impressive screenshots that accompany it, which seem to indicate that we are not facing a mere reissue, but rather an authentic remake that will put the new light in a new light. Lost Heaven city.
A masterpiece
The original game, written and directed by Daniel Vávra (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) and developed by Illusion Softworks was a game mistakenly branded as a "clone" of GTA 3, when both games were practically conceived in parallels, albeit in uneven circumstances. GTA 3 would be released in October 2001 for the popular Playstation 2, skyrocketing its sales. While Mafia would come out in August 2002 for PC, before a smaller audience and with late and troublesome conversions to the console. Also with a design and a narrative ambition very different from that of the DMA / Rockstar game, more festive and carefree in the face of Mafia's sobriety.
It is a slow game but of unquestionable authenticity, where things such as jumping a traffic light if you are unlucky enough to come across a police car are severely penalized. It features a gigantic mapping, a delightful soundtrack, and one of the best stories ever told in the video game (the ending is simply a masterpiece of the medium). The images shown give hope that we can revive this gem with next-generation graphics that highlight all the fantastic documentation work around the city of Lost Heaven.
