They hack the Koei Tecmo website and steal users' personal data

The publishing company of Nioh 2 and Ninja Gaiden has suffered a cyber attack that has forced them to temporarily shut down their websites.

After the notorious attack on Capcom, the European division of Koei Tecmo has confirmed that they have hacked their web pages, which is why they have decided to temporarily close their sites in Europe and the United States. They have done it as a precaution, as they have reported through a press release that DualShockers collects. The company has acknowledged the leak of a total of 65,000 user accounts, which means that some of the personal information of customers is in possession of the attackers. Apparently, it all started on December 25th on the Koei Tecmo forums.

The internal investigation has revealed the theft of sensitive user data. From the details that have been collected, it is known that account names, passwords – encrypted, yes – and email addresses have been obtained. However, everything seems to indicate that hackers have not taken information on credit cards of customers or employees. What they have got are credentials from the official forums.

Ongoing investigation

The Japanese company has taken immediate action and closed the Koei Tecmo Europe and America website. In addition, these sites have been disconnected from the internal network that connects them to other company sites. “Due to a possible cyberattack on this website we have closed it while we investigate the problem,” you can read. At the time of writing, both pages are still closed.

Although Koei Tecmo is investigating the matter, a publication has been discovered in which hackers have acknowledged its authorship. They say they sell information about the company’s FTP authentication, as well as data from the official Twitter account. At the moment, it is best to change the passwords, especially if you have used them on other web pages.
