A YouTube user known as Vect0R has successfully brought Half-Life 2 into the virtual reality environment of the new and celebrated installment in the saga, Half-Life Alyx. This has been shared on his channel by publishing a video of such amazing work by modder, through which he has managed to adapt the second chapter of the saga to Source 2, the graphics engine of the new video game specially designed for virtual reality.
Gordon Freeman comes to Source 2
Thus, the user known as Vect0R, as explained in the description of his video, has managed to convert the map file from Half-Life 2 to Source 2, the graphic engine on which Half-Life Alyx is based, exporting thus the original environments to the new title of Valve. In addition, and as the author of the video explains, he has had to adapt numerous resources from the original title so that they can work correctly in the new virtual Alyx environment.
Broadly speaking, it is a mod for the new installment with which you can play the classic Half-Life 2 in virtual reality format; Of course, it seems that the experiment will stay in that, in a curious test, since without access to a Source 2 professional development kit, much more can not be achieved than what is shown in the video.
Let us remember that it is not the first time that an attempt has been made to bring Half-Life 2 to the virtual reality format, since, without going any further, a project was launched in Steam Greenlight for this purpose in 2017 and that, to date today, it is still in development.
