Studio Trigger and Netflix collaborate with CD Projekt Red to make the anime based on the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. This is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

CD Projekt Red announced in its first episode of Night City Wire that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature an anime series based on its universe. Called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, it will be run by Studio Trigger, in collaboration with the Polish studio and Netflix.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunner will tell through 10 episodes the story “of a boy trying to survive in a city obsessed with technology and the modification of human bodies”, narrates his official description. “Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an Edgerunner, a band of mercenaries also known as cyberpunk,” he concludes.

Studio Trigger will have their own names in Japanese animation, responsible for brands such as Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal, Kill la Kill and Promare, among other works. It will be directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi along with his assistant Masahiko Otsuka. The character designs will see life with Yoh Yoshinari and Yuto Kaneko brushes. The original soundtrack will be the work of the teacher Akira Yamaoka, who has lately been involved in other projects around the video game world.

“We have devoured all the cyberpunk fiction that can be seen, read and played; It is a genre that allows a lot of space for creativity, and that influences us strongly. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a love letter to cyberpunk as a whole, and to stories told in animation, ”explains Cyberpunk 2077 director Adam Badowski.

Without an official release date, what we do know is that it will premiere on Netflix sometime next 2022. Two years in which the brand will continue to be on the front line for CD Projekt Red. For our part, we have already been able to spend four hours in the Night City suburbs. Our editorial coordinator, Francisco Alberto Serrano, tells us his first impressions through this link. It will arrive on November 19 on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.
