
The production of Tomb Raider 2 was due to start this year, although with the coronavirus crisis it has been on standby; the actress is hopeful.
The Oscar winner and star of the latest film adaptation of the Tomb Raider video game saga, actress Alicia Vikander, is optimistic about shooting the sequel to the theatrical reboot of Lara Croft’s adventures in 2021. So has assured in a recent interview with the Entertainment Weekly medium, lamenting the current situation in the film industry and hoping that everything will improve for the following year. And is that a new installment of Tomb Raider was already announced in spring 2019 with the aim of starting production sometime in 2020. Although due to the current global crisis of the coronavirus, its filming has been postponed indefinitely.
Alicia Vikander wants to get back into action
And according to the actress herself, Tomb Raider 2 has not been canceled and she hopes to start filming sometime in 2021. “The plan was to start this year, but naturally due to the situation of the pandemic now everything is very different. We are still in talks about it, I hope we can do it probably next year, ”Vikander said in the interview.
And it is that as fans will remember, in 2019 the production of the second part under the direction of Ben Wheatly was confirmed, with the start of filming at the beginning of this 2020 and with the aim of reaching theaters in March 2021. As is evident, the plans have been truncated by the current global pandemic and at the moment there is no confirmed date on the return to work to shoot the new film.
If the new plans follow normally, production could start in early 2021 with the aim of releasing in theaters sometime in 2022. Let us remember that the first part of this cinematic reboot of the saga starring Lara Croft was released in theaters in March 2018, building on Square Enix’s own video game reboot and grossing nearly $ 250 million worldwide.
