Animal Crossing: New Horizons continues to break records and is very close to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Zelda and Pokémon are approaching 20 million.
Nintendo has updated the list of its best-selling video games for Nintendo Switch to date. On the occasion of the presentation of its latest financial report, which corresponds to the period from July to September 2020 (Q2 / FY2021), the Japanese firm has reported extraordinary data in both hardware – 68.30 million units – and software, where they have dispatched more than 49 million titles.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons, 26 million units in half a year
In total, of those 456.49 million games sold in just three and a half years, there are a number of proper names that stand out above the rest due to their exceptional numbers. We start with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continues to lead and stands at an astronomical 28.99 million units sold; a projection that places it above 30 million games in just a few months. Similar situation for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, except that it did not take three years to reach 26 million units, but only half a year.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has more than doubled Animal Crossing: New Leaf in just six months.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remains in the third step of the podium with 21.10 million units sold; never a game in the series, nor a fighting video game, had sold so much. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also tells us about records with 19.74 million units sold only on Nintendo Switch, on the verge of exceeding 20 million. Pokémon Sword and Shield, without counting what it dispatches after the launch of The Snows of the Crown, accumulates 19.02 million games, figures only below Pokémon Red / Blue and Pokémon Gold / Silver. The best record in the history of the series since 2000.
Super Mario Odyssey remains in the Top-10 with 18.99 million copies sold, while Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu / Eevee moves to the next level of successful, but not so highly successful games, with 12.49 million units sold. Finally, Super Mario Party, Splatoon 2 and New Super Mario Bros. round out this surprising list.
