The Riot game will bet on another F2P model, with fully aesthetic micropayments that will not affect the gaming experience
It was already confirmed that Valorant, the 5 Vs 5 in first person of the creators of League of Legends, would be F2P, with aesthetic micropayments. But the study has offered more details about what they have in mind, making it clear that the arrival of skins and aesthetic objects can arrive after a while since the launch, since the priority will be in the game and in the community. But they have explained concrete ideas of how they want to develop this facet: purely aesthetic, no loot boxes and always with the idea ahead of not influencing the battlefield.
With different governments around the world beginning to question or regulate the "surprise boxes" system, it is not surprising that Riot does not want to know anything about the subject. All payment items in Valorant will have an associated price and can always be obtained through game hours. The other concern is that things like skins do not have undesirable side effects on the battlefield, such as making a character harder to see in certain environments or leading to misperceptions with the impact zones – which will be the same for everyone the characters, something crucial for a 5 Vs 5 to be balanced.
Hard rivals
The new competitive FPS of Riot will arrive with a very hard competition already established, from the incombustible Counter Strike – and its clones worldwide – to games like Overwatch or Paladins. Therefore, from Riot they are focused on the fact that once they launch it into the market, it is a great competitive experience and that the F2P model is attractive for players with a lot of choice to choose from. At the moment, there is no release date, but it is expected to make an appearance at some point in this 2020 for PC – leaving the door open to other systems in the future, but nothing defined.
