McLaren has put its low‑drag rear wing project on hold until after the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Motorsport.com reports.
Why the Hold?
The “Macarena” design, first trialled at the Austrian GP, requires more development before a track rollout, as any failure would cost precious practice time.
Wing Mechanics
Unlike standard DRS, the new system rotates the entire upper flap instead of pulling it toward the side, delivering higher drag reduction but complicating the aerodynamic transition and tyre loads.
Strategic Outlook for 2026
Lando Norris called the concept innovative yet complex, and McLaren will monitor rivals and refine the MCL40 during a season pause after Bahrain and Saudi Arabia; the wing will probably debut at Belgium.
