Xbox turns to Japan: support from SEGA, Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai and many more

A video published by Xbox summarizes that Microsoft’s participation in Tokyo Game Show serves to ratify support from the big Japanese.

Xbox wants to consolidate its brand in Japan. After acquiring ZeniMax Media (including all Bethesda Softworks studios), the company led by Phil Spencer wants to occupy a relevant position in the Japanese market and win the support of the big Japanese publishers. Their participation in Tokyo Game Show 2020 has served to ratify that commitment through a summary video where members of SEGA, Bandai Namco, Square Enix and many more declare that they will launch their video games on Xbox Series X | S.

Xbox Series X | S wants to consolidate its sales in Japan

As we can see, members of Koei Tecmo, Hidetaka Suehiro (Swery65), Harada Tekken on behalf of Bandai Namco, SNK, Koji Igarashi (ArPlay), HAMSTER, CyberConnect2, SEGA, Capcom and Square Enix have pledged not to sideline to Microsoft’s new home platform, where it is expected that there will also be exclusive sponsorship deals and other titles that will see the light directly on Xbox Game Pass.

In fact, one of the main highlights will do so this December: Dragon Quest XI S: Definitive Edition. The game will be released on December 4 in stores for all platforms; but on Xbox Game Pass you can play from day one. During the event it was also confirmed that the Samurai Shodown saga will come to Xbox Series and that Football Manager 2021 will be exclusive on consoles for Xbox One and Xbox Series.

After a generation where Xbox One has barely sold an average of 100 units per week in the best of cases (Xbox One X has reached 93,544 units in its entire useful life, according to Famitsu; Xbox One S some 20,800 units since its launch), Phil Spencer wants the tables to turn and the product gradually begins to gain market share. We will soon know if that strategy will work or not.

Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will go on sale around the world on November 10 at a price of 499 euros and 299 euros, respectively. In Japan, this week we have learned that a reduction of 3,000 yen (about 24 euros) will be applied on the Xbox Series S model (it stays at 29,980 yen), while the Series X model has not undergone any change (49,980 yen). With this reduction, Xbox Series S will cost exactly 10,000 yen less than PS5 Digital Edition, a more aggressive difference compared to direct competition.
