Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announced the launch of the Xbox XP division, a new initiative that will push core Xbox franchises into film, television, live events, and branded merchandise.
XP’s Core Focus Areas
- Xbox Pictures – expand Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo, Fallout and other IP into linear storytelling.
- Xbox Products – create fan‑centric items that let supporters celebrate celebrated titles.
- Xbox Places – host live events, immersive attractions, broadcasts and destination experiences.
- Xbox Partnerships – collaborate with creators, brands and communities to build sponsorships and fresh entertainment.
Kayleen Walters Takes the Helm
Kayleen Walters, former Mojang head and executive producer of the highly successful Minecraft movie, will lead the XP team. Her track record includes steering the Minecraft franchise to 425 million units sold worldwide.
Falcon‑Flight for Legendary Franchises
Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball outlined that XP will license and adapt leading Xbox titles for cinema and television. The plan focuses on Call of Duty, Gears of War, Halo and Fallout, aiming to broaden their audiences while retaining their essence.
Exploring Cinematic Horizons
Ball cited Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT as a prime example of XP’s cinematic ambitions. The division will leverage its cinematic direction to develop game‑based narratives for the big screen.
Renewed Momentum After Restructuring
Following Xbox’s “XBOX Reset” layoffs, the XP division promises a fresh direction, giving players a clear path to see their favorite games beyond gaming and into movies, TV, events and brand collaborations.
