Yoshida, from Final Fantasy XIV: "PS5 and Scarlett are like a PC"; the port would not be difficult

The director of the last online game of the franchise states that the process of transferring the title to a new generation is not so complicated.

Final Fantasy XIV is not confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett, although its director, Naoki Yoshida, did express his wish for the video game to reach the new generation. Despite the misunderstanding, the Japanese creative has talked with Eurogamer about the vicissitudes of the process, while recalling that both platforms are essentially a PC, which means that the conversion would not be so complicated, according to Yoshida.

The director explains that while PlayStation 3 still had unique features, given its architecture, current systems are increasingly similar to compatible ones. “All consoles released after Xbox 360 — Xbox One, PS4; and PS5 and Scarlett in the future — you can see them more like a PC. ” Yoshida points out that there are small differences (for example, the size of the GPU and the CPU), but you can assume “that they are a type of PC”.

After commenting that they are working on Final Fantasy XIV for PC, he has said that there are different names to name those platforms. "Some say Xbox One, PS4, PS5, but they are all the same with different names." The developer specifies, however, that they ensure that any machine on which the game comes out has to meet a series of minimum requirements in terms of power. "It's easy to climb up or down within that limit," he concludes.

What are the plans for the next generation?

Eurogamer has also asked about the plans regarding the new generation, something he has not wanted to release. "We are not in the phase where we can make official announcements," he says. "It's too early to make those kinds of ads right now." Of course, he emphasizes that they maintain a positive attitude towards the new generation: "The most important policy that we cannot give up is to make sure that cross play is available on any device."

He confirms that in the past they have had differences with Microsoft, since their conditions differed, but he reveals that in the last year the conversations with Phil Spencer have allowed to limit those roughnesses. “We feel that the road is free. Think positively".

Final Fantasy XIV was originally released on the previous generation of consoles, but it is also available on PC and PS4.
