San Diego Comic-Con 2020 canceled due to coronavirus

The organization of the Californian fair is already contacting the attendees who have reservations to return the tickets.

The coronavirus crisis continues to cause events to be canceled around the world, knowing that some of the most important ones such as E3 2020 or Gamescom 2020 will not take place. This time it is the turn of the San Diego Comic-Con, scheduled for July, but due to this global pandemic it has also had to be canceled for the first time in its 50-year history.

The Comic-Con organization has already contacted the attendees, offering either money back or a ticket reservation for the 2021 edition, which is already confirmed for July 22 and 25. In the coming weeks, those who already have these tickets reserved should receive an email with this information, while the onPeak hotel, affiliated with the event, is returning the money for the rooms reserved automatically.

San Diego Comic-Con 2020 canceled due to coronavirus

"Extraordinary times require extraordinary action, and while we are saddened to do this, we believe it is the right decision," said David Glanzer, a Comic-Con spokesman. "We are looking forward to the moment when we can meet again and share the community we love and enjoy."

A new event that adds to a long list

Thus, the more than 135,000 attendees who are estimated to come every summer to the Californian city to enjoy their hobbies will have to stay at home, plus the approximately 2,500 accredited journalists. As we know, Comic-Con is neither the first event, nor will it likely be the last to be canceled this year. The aforementioned E2 2020 and GamesCom 2020 have already come before, in addition to QuakeCon 2020 or the Pokémon World Cup and its entire season. Meanwhile, some upcoming events remain on the wire, such as Blizzcon 2020, which Blizzard has already said is too early to speak of in terms of a hypothetical celebration … or cancellation.
