The Witcher: Netflix aims for Nifgaard's armor to evolve

The series starring Henry Cavill will begin the story of the sorcerer in a new exclusive Netflix television series.

The Witcher will premiere its first season on December 20 on Netflix, a fantasy (or horror) story whose filming and postproduction has lasted this year. One of the things that has given more to talk about is the design of Nifgaard's armor, which has not convinced all fans. It will change? Lauren S. Hissrich, showrunner of the series, has replied in a Reddit thread, not without lack of humor, the following: “Before the premiere? Not even Yennefer is so powerful. ”

That does not mean that there is no room for maneuver for future seasons. "Everyone is learning at this point, trying to elucidate what is working and what is not." That includes costumes, wigs, locations, etc. According to the showrunner, "because of all that hard work," she is very proud of the first episode.

An army in formation

Hissrich has fully introduced himself in explaining the process they have taken when designing armor: "Unlike the Cintra army, which is composed of knights and specialized soldiers under the royal command of Calanthe, the Nilfgaard army" is formed by recruited soldiers. As they move forward, they enlist citizens. "They are not an elite force yet," he says. "There are powerful leaders on the front, yes, but the army itself" was born out of necessity, "without glamor. His armor reflects that. ”

For the showrunner, the important word is “still”, since the series is expected to last for years, so they consciously chose a Nilfgaard in formation, not at the time of more power and influence. "As in history, we try to start from the beginning and then leave room for change, to breathe and grow them to their final form."

The Witcher is based on the books written by Andrzej Sapowski, who participates in the series as a consultant.
