PS5: Another cartridge patent popped up

Although Sony has already confirmed that the PS5 is equipped with a UHD drive, a cartridge patent is now emerging again, which is more reminiscent of the beginnings of consoles.

The patent was found at the INPI (Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial) in Brazil, which describes a cartridge that applies the design of "configuration to / in data recording and storage devices". The patent was filed by Yujin Morisawa, senior art director at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the same who patented the PS5 Dev kit design.

It is also not the first time that a new cartridge patent from Sony has been registered, as early as 2018, similar plans of the Japanese were revealed, which later turned out that it was intended for the Toio platform from Sony, which is aimed at children , In this respect, it is conceivable that once again the final scope of application is misinterpreted.

The concept drawings of the most recent patent, however, also indicate more of a console design, which fuels such speculation. Possibly uses the PS5 an additional cartridge system, which was previously not announced and serves as a kind of proprietary removable storage?

Time will also show what exactly lies behind this patent.
