The successful Wii title was one of the references of The Coalition to make the new episode of the Xbox Game Studios saga a reality.
Gears 5 is one of the most successful games of Microsoft in the present generation of consoles. The title, available on Xbox One and PC, has been the product of a long development by The Coalition, which has now recognized having taken Wii Super Mario Galaxy as one of its many inspirations.
According to Rod Fergusson, leader of the Canadian study, in a meeting held at the Montreal International Game Summit, Jack's character – the versatile logistic support robot – was designed with Nintendo's famous platform game in mind. Super Mario Galaxy had the possibility of using a second Wii Mote to pick up the stars or throw fireballs at the enemies while the player one played normally controlling Mario.
In Gears 5 something similar happens for Jack, whose actions adopt a secondary role based on the help and support of the protagonist. In addition, there is the possibility of a second player using it to stun, inflict damage to enemies from a distance or heal allies.

The reason for this design decision is clear: to reach a much larger audience and that other types of players can enjoy the campaign without the need to be immersed in intense shootings. “We created that character on purpose, whose abilities and movement were exactly what controlled him of what the game is essentially; It would have a different way of being played, ”he says.
Road to the Game Awards: three nominations
The Coalition itself has recently reflected on Xbox Project Scarlett, Microsoft's next home console. Matt Searcy, director of campaign mode design, says we can play Gears 5 in Scarlett, but has not detailed whether there will be improvements. What is certain is that intergenerational games will be updated free of Xbox One to Scarlett if we had already purchased the current version.
The Game Awards 2019, the gala where the best games of the year will be decided in an extra official way on December 12, has Gears 5 as a maximum Microsoft standard with a total of three nominations: best sound design, best action game and Best performance for the role of Laura Bailey.
